The ability to encompass a whole new empowered and enriched energy is coming...
Thankyou for allowing me to walk with you!
Before you walk the journey, theres a few things you should know:
Dreadlocks are an act of patience and involve a process of evolution. They go through a process of maturing, which can see 1-2 years before your dream look starts to take place.
While maturing, they may take on some organic shaping and harbour some bumps & fizziness - this is completely normal, I like to think about this as their personality and character.
The character of your dreadlocks is strongly dictated by your hair type. Regardless of which direction they go in, with maintenance and at the right at home techniques, your locs will be nurtured and healthy. I will be able to educate you in all of this during your appointment. Just remember - let go and enjoy the process!
Once your dreadlocks are installed, it is ideal to not get them wet for 6-8 weeks- this is vital to the process of locking. After this no-wash period, you will give them a good wash before coming in for your first maintenance session, where your roots will be tightened and any bumps will be taken care of. On-going Maintenance depends on desired look & hair type but generally at least 3 sessions within the first year is recommended to ensure they are set up for their more mature phases.
Upon install, your dreadlocks may be quite stiff. Within a few weeks, your locs will loosen and encompass a more ‘lived-in’ feel.
You will experience some shrinkage in hair length when you get dreadlocks. This is due to the backcombing process. Extensions can always be crocheted in if you're wanting extra length.
There are plenty of tips, tricks and know-how’s in the World of Dreadlocks. After your appointment, you will be sent home with a gift pack including instructions, reminders, extra tips and a locking spray to ensure you have all the tools needed to start your journey on the right foot.
A consultation is key before you get loc’d up - Scalp health is a big contributor to healthy locs and getting to know your crown & hair type before I work on you will be instrumental in ensuring you are set up for success.
I will let you know how to prepare for your Dreadlocks in your consultation.
